Asian Caprolactam: Buyers hesitant as upstream prices retreat / Spot discussions thin / Benzene falls $42/mt on week

Asian caprolactam prices were assessed $15/mt lower in the week ended Sept. 12, as buyers remained cautious amid a pullback in upstream prices. the FOB Korea benzene marker at $939.67/ mt, down $42/mt from the previous week. "Caprolactam prices this week seem stably low. Prices have decreased following benzene but with some delay. So [production] spreads seemed to have improved temporarily," said a producer. Another producer said buying sentiment is weak this week, adding, "No one dares to buy any spot cargoes." An offer was heard at $1,660/mt CFR Taiwan, but buying indications have fallen in line with the wider market.
