week leading up to the 4th May, and the poor demand for nylon downstream, the
Asian caprolactam was stable. Most
market sources said they would "wait and see" if there was a need for
renegotiation of prices for caprolactam, as the demand seemed highly uncertain. A nylon producer who uses caprolactam for feedstock said,
"We have reduced our production a great deal." Caprolactam prices were discussed at $20/mt over or under
$1,650/mt by a producer in Southeast Asia, but no interest was shown. The same source said that the nylon market in Southeast Asia
