Asian Caprolactam : Buyers hold back on purchases as benzene upstream falls / Benzene falls $37/mt on week / The advantage of phenol-based processing fades

Caprolactam prices in Asia fell $15/mt during the week ending July 25, amid low trading. Upstream, the benzene price fell by $37/mt in the past week to $966.33/mt FOB Korea on July 25. Ammonia prices dropped $10/mt to $450/mt Far East Asia on July 24. A market participant said that trading this week was thin as the support from upstream is waning. A market participant in Taiwan said that the weakness of benzene markets has affected buyers' expectations for lower prices. Market sources reported that prices in China remained stable from week to week. This helped to support the price. The relative advantage of producers based on phenol is eroding as phenol prices rise. The phenol CFR China mark at $975/mt on July 23 narrowed the discount to the benzene....
