Propylene prices continued to fall on May
5, as crude oil weakened. At 5:00 pm Singapore time the July ICE
Brent futures contract was $0.25/b higher than the previous Asian closing
price of $73.36/lb, at 0830 GMT. The slight
increase in crude oil prices failed to boost the propylene market. "Oil
has fallen quite significantly," said a propylene dealer in China. A company
source reported May 5 that Tianjin Bohai Chemical produced 1,700 mt/day and
supplied it primarily to its downstream plant, Tianjin Bohua Yongli. It also
sold the propylene to buyers in the northern China region and Shandong. Propylene
can be used as a feedstock to make 2-EH or butanol. On 5 May, FOB
Korea and CFR China propylene were $880/mt each and at 900/mt....
