Asian Butadiene: Falling on low demand / Nov butadiene futures rise Yuan 160/mt in one day / Higher inventories in Northeast Asia

Both producers and buyers reported that the price of Asian butadiene fell on Oct. 18, due to weak downstream demand. Asian butadiene was down $10/mt on the day to $1,520/mt at FOB Korea, on October 18. High inventories in Northeast Asia were reported, and sources stated that a cargo would be shipped from South Korea to China for year-end inventory clearance. Sellers and buyers both said that demand outside China is extremely low. Market sources reported that local Chinese cargoes traded for Yuan 12,700/mt ex tank, or about $1,560/mt on an import parity basis. According to data from the Shanghai Futures Exchange, the November butadiene futures rose Yuan 160/mt in a single day to Yuan 15 560/mt October 18.
