Asian Butadiene: Falling amid weak demand and ample supply / Poor downstream run rates affect buying indicators / Near-term demand is under pressure

The Asian Butadiene Markets fell during the week ending February 21, as a result of a weak demand coupled with an abundance of supply. The demand was low due to the poor performance of downstream synthetic rubber plants. Several plants were estimated to be operating at 60 or less percent. Some buyers claim that the manufacturing of end-products had not yet recovered to pre-Lunar New Year's levels. This led to low restocking activity for synthetic rubber. Synthetic rubber futures also fell. Participants said that this directly contributed to the lower indications of buying butadiene as well as the lack urgency in buying it.
