Asian Butadiene: Stable despite thin holiday trade / Traders look for arbitrage opportunities / Spot activities to remain quiet amid holiday

Asian butadiene was stable at $1,490/mt CFR China on Jan. 27 after a lack of price discussions. The global butadiene markets are closely monitored by traders who are looking for arbitrage opportunities. The CIF USG price of butadiene increased by 3 cents/lb, from 50 cents/lb to $1,102/mt on January 24. The FOB Rotterdam Butadiene Price, as assessed by Platts, jumped $95/mt in a week and reached a new three-month-high of $1.115/mt on Jan. 24, according to the company. The TPC Group announced that it had completed an expansion of its Houston crude C4 facility, increasing butadiene production by 20%, to 500,000 mt/year.
