in the Asian Butadiene markets persisted in the week ending May 19, as sluggish
downstream activity continued to weigh on demand. Several market
participants said poor demand in the key rubber markets kept butadiene buyers
on the sidelines as operating rates for SBR and BR were low. Some buyers said
they were not looking for June cargoes amid high downstream inventories, while
others said they would only consider cargoes arriving in late June or early
July as they were covered in the near term. Cargo availability was heard
from the US, Middle East, and South Korea, according to market participants,
further adding to the bearishness as supply was deemed to be in excess of
