Due to the crude spike, Asian monoethylene
glycol imports prices rose on April 3. The May futures contract on the Dalian Commodity
Exchange rose Yuan 59-65/mt to settle in Yuan 4,198/mt ex tank April 3. The price
of the May ICE Brent crude oil futures contract jumped $5.52/b to $84.210/b by
4:30 PM Singapore time (0830 GMT), April 3. According
to sources, the low operating rates are responsible for tight supply. Sources
from China claim they won't make profits unless MEG prices are at least $700-720/mt
CFR. They will choose to operate at the lowest safety and economic standards
possible. Others stated that they could not raise offers
because of current market prices.
