On April 19, Asian monoethylene-glycol
import prices were unchanged day over day due to thin trading. Brent crude futures on ICE
decreased by $1.06/b in the session, to $83.54/b as of 4:30 pm Singapore time
(830 GMT), April 19. MEG was deemed to be
one of the poorest performing ethylene derivatives by producers, who preferred
to divert feedstock ethylene into other uses. The Middle East is a good place to produce ethane due to its
low cost. However, other feedstocks like naphtha and coal are running at low
rates, around 60%. The producers said that
there were also safety concerns which limited how low run rates could go. Sources said that the Middle East produces around 10 million
