Brazil PE : LDPE prices rise, HDPE values fall amid mixed fundamentals / Market activity is muted in the last week of August / Imports and domestic products to see price increases

Prices of polyethylene imported from the US to Brazil increased for low-density grade but declined for the majority of high-density product in the week ending July 31 due to mixed fundamentals and a lackluster activity. A trader said that some products, like high-density polyethylene blowmoldings, are still unavailable, but there are plenty of leftovers in the film grade. Imports are less attractive than before because the products are more expensive. Low-density films grade and linear low density both increased by $30/mt in the past week. HDPE film fell by $15/mt in the past week. Blowmolding also decreased after several consecutive price increases. The rise in the dollar exchange rate was cited by market participants as a problem for importing goods, and an increase in import duties into Brazil is expected....
