On
May 19, the Asian naphtha markets saw an increase in activity as the week
concluded with a flurry tenders. This included two tenders issued, and three
completed, due to the demand for naphtha blendstocks ahead of the summer
driving season. Some market participants were hopeful that despite the persistently
low downstream petrochemical demands, the increased gasoline demand will lead
to an increase in the naphtha supply. The increase in gasoline
consumption, especially in the US and Europe, is the primary reason for the
decline in the East-West swap rate. The market is being supported by the
