The week ended May 24 saw slightly lower
offers for polyethylene-terephthalate on the Asian market due to a slower
demand from export markets. Sellers in the bottle-grade PET
market cited a lack of demand from major buyers in Europe, and the US. They said
that export enquiries had decreased week over week due to high inventories at
home and slow finished goods consumption. A producer
said that domestic demand in China remained stable. Discussions for July
cargoes remained rangebound from week to week. The
reduction in prices has affected margins. At least two sellers have said that
production margins are lower, and that cargoes to be loaded into July remain
