The Asian toluene markets were stable or higher on May 28. Upstream and downstream markets are increasing, which supports the FOB mark. Asian toluene was up $2/mt on the day at $889/mt for FOB Korea, and stable at $927/mt for FOB China. During Asian trade (830 GMT), the July ICE Brent crude futures increased $1.14/b, to $83.39/b. Meanwhile, benzene rose $12/mt on May 28, to $1.083.33/mt. Commodity Insights showed that the spread between FOB Korean benzene and methanol markers hit a record high of $194.33/mt in May 28. This was the highest since June 7, 2020, when the markup reached $242.17/mt. These data indicate strong disproportionation margins at the moment.
