On May 9, the European benzene markets
edged up for delivery in front-month, though a backwardated system remained
from May to June. The
laycan for five to 30 days forward delivery was $982-1000/mt. This is down 25
cents from the previous day due to lower prices in June's first half and full
month. The thin demand at the front of the
market was paired with some tightening of supply in the second half April and
into May. The lower run rates of benzene
for Europe and the weak demand pushed sellers into looking for export
opportunities. The downstream styrene
