Asian Benzene: Prices rise tracking stronger upstream markets / Benzene operating rate higher than downstream source / Formosa closes its largest SM Line due to technical problems

The strength of the upstream market has led to a $2.33/mt increase in Asian benzene, which is now priced at $1,015.67/mt, FOB Korea. The front-month September ICE Brent contract rose 87 Cents/b during the session to $87.50/b. Meanwhile, naphtha prices rose $6.375/mt to $721.625/mt, C+F Japan. The FOB Korea physical market was quiet for the majority of the session. The afternoon intraday values were unchanged from the previous close. During the Market On Close process, a deal between GS Caltex, BP and an August-loading shipment was reached at $1,021/mt. GS Caltex then increased its bid to $1,021/mt before the close.
