Benzene prices fell on April 28 as buyer
interest remained low as the price of May's contract was negotiated. The laycan for five to thirty days was valued at
$1,069/mt CIF ARA, down $3.50/mt from the previous day and $35.50/mt over the
past week. On April 28, the European benzene contract
price, which is a result of an industry-wide agreement in Europe, was set at
$1.112-2.120/mt. This represents a $113 /mt increase over the previous month. A contract
for May was also announced, which is Eur89/mt higher than the April price of
Eur1,007/mt. As benzene production rates in Europe were
reduced, prices for the benzene product increased through April. The
