Sources said that Belgium had introduced a cap of 1% for fuel exports, which could change the supply conditions on the European benzene markets. The government of Belgium confirmed on May 23 that it has approved new quality control measures to stop the exportation of low-quality, cheap motor fuels to West Africa. A representative of the Environment Minister confirmed on May 23 that the implementation will begin three months after publication of the Royal Decree, signed this week. The new limits on chemicals for Belgian gasoline could also extend the market for benzene. The new measures will cap the benzene level at 1%.
