On June 4, TOTSA offered 1,000 mt of benzene for dates in June at $1,056/mt CIF-ARA. This was the second consecutive day when benzene prices were lower during the Market on Close process. Shell Trading Rotterdam had entered the MOC assessment process on June 3 by offering 1,000 mt benzene dates June at $1,124/mt CIF. The European benzene demand remained low with participants not optimistic about an improvement. A benzene contract for June was signed at $1,080/mt per 1,000 mt in the morning of 4 June, despite low demand. Sources cited low octanes demand as a reason why benzene has been at low levels for so long.
