Benzene May Contract Settled Down $175/mt / No trades were heard because of the month-end and Labor Day holidays

In the week before May 1, the European polystyrene markets were quiet, with many market participants away on holiday for Labor Day. Polystyrene producers have been waiting for the settlement on styrene after the April 30 settlement of the May benzene price, which was $1,197/mt, down $175/mt compared to April. Two sellers and three purchasers confirmed the benzene price contract at this level. Polystyrene demand has been low over the last few months due to high prices that followed styrene price increases. A trader previously stated that polystyrene "struggled with demand" and there were no new applications. This highlighted the declining demand for this commodity.
