Asian Benzene: Support from Upstream Markets /Benzene/naphtha Spread Weakens to $232/mt / Sinopec Jiujiang closes aromatics plant from 10 October to 10 November

The upstream markets supported the Asian benzene price increase of $3/mt on October 11, to $931/mt, FOB Korea. The gains in Asian benzene were modest when compared to upstream markets. As of the Asian close the front-month Brent futures contract increased $1.57/b, to $78.91/b. The C+F Japan Naphtha mark rose $9/mt during the session to reach $698.875/mt. The physical benzene/naphtha spread has also dropped recently to a 10 month low before further dipping on the trading day to $232/mt. Early indications of term contract talks were seen in FOB Korea, with the best bid being $8/mt above the weekly Mean of Korea (wMOPK) base price for the month of loading.
