Benzene assessed $6-7/mt over styrene | European structure is similar to the US

- Benzene assessed $6-7/mt over styrene- European structure is similar to the US

Styrene prices fell below feedstockbenzene
on March 2 as it was still in low demand in Europe. The styrene
forward-loading laycan for five- to thirty-days was $932.75/mt, down $46.25/mt
as March trading was pushed lower. In
light of limited activity, the assessment fell below benzene which was valued
at $938.75-953.80/mt CIF ARA. Even though
demand was low in Europe for styrenics for February, production rates started
to rise after the restart of Trinseo’s Terneuzen, Netherlands monomer plant. At the beginning of 2023, support for the benzene markets
was seen from the US, but prices have followed a similar pattern with styrene
costs falling below benzene the week before and showing little derivative
demand.
