US Gulf Coast benzene prices were unchanged on May 22, amid lower crude futures and stable downstream spot prices for styrene. spot May DDP benzene at 401 cents/gal DDP USG and May FOB benzene at 406 cents/gal FOB USG. Prices for June were stable and assessed at 395c/gal DDP and 400c/gal FOB. Ethylbenzene was assessed at 357 Cents/gal DDP in May and 363 Cents/gal DDP in June. The FOB-DDP premium was unchanged at 5 cents. And the backwardation between June and May remained at 6cents. The market was inactive. A source reported that benzene arbitrage between the US and Europe had been closed due to unfavorable economy. Crude futures prices fell on May 22. US Energy Information Administration data showed a well-supplied oil market, even though refiners were increasing runs....
