On May 10, despite a quiet market, Asian
ethylene prices were unchanged at $890/mt CIF Northeast Asia and $920/mt CIF
Southeast Asia. Market
buyers continued to be concerned about unhealthy margins due to the poor demand
for products derived from ethylene, such as styrene. Poor demand is attributed to macroeconomic factors such as
high interest rate, volatile upstream price, and a slower than expected
recovery of demand from China's reopening. Some market participants stated that the current cracker
turnarounds occurring in China and South Korea will not change bearish
sentiments, as many have already met their requirements for May and June. This
