Barge-truck premiums stabilize amid increased demand / Initial May MEG contract agreed Eur15 more than April

The price of MEG trucks continued to increase in the week ending May 3, despite strong PET demand. According to market sources, the demand for smaller parcel sizes increased after barges reached Eur590/mt. This was due to the fact that barges had increased to Eur590/mt. In April, trucks were cheaper than large parcels. This could have led buyers to consider them. PET buyers showed a strong interest in barges, which grew as a result of higher freight costs. This made imports from Asia, previously cheaper, more expensive. Import landing times also increased as ships had to travel along the Cape of Good Hope route, a longer journey towards Europe.
