Backwardation is steeper than day / East-West Spread slightly narrower

On the European naphtha markets, the backwardation increased slightly on April 16, due to a strong blend demand and stable production of petrochemicals. A European trader stated that the East-West and time spreads on the naphtha markets were very volatile due to "fluctuations of crude price" in response to the rising tensions in Middle East. A second trader stated that blending demand increased for heavy naphtha this week. This was one of the factors contributing to steepening backwardation. Petronor Bilbao's refinery is restarting the G1 diesel de-sulfurization unit that was shut down for maintenance on April 2. The company announced April 16th.
