The backwardation in the European naphtha markets on April 15 increased slightly, as the market began to factor in more geopolitical tensions from the Middle East after the weekend's escalation of tensions between Iran and Israel. The narrowing of the East-West - the spread between CFR Japan naphtha swap and CIF NWE equivalent - which was rising last week suggested that the naphtha markets did not expect any significant disruptions in fundamentals.
