The backwardation on the European naphtha markets was a little less severe but still volatile. A local trader stated that the demand for naphtha in blends was strong, which caused the market to remain steeply backwardated. The local traders said that heavy naphtha used in reformate production had a premium around $50-$60/mt over open-spec naphtha. Light naphtha for gasoline blends was at a premium of $30/mt. The petrochemical market remained weak, but tight supply in Europe was driving more naphtha to petrochemicals. Trading sources report that France's Donges Refinery is still not fully online. The refinery was offline since February. The refinery began its restart early in March and was expected to last until the beginning of April.
