The Asian styrene markets declined on May
30, amid weaker Chinese domestic indications and an increasing dollar. As of the Asian close at
0830 GMT, the ICE July Brent contract dropped $1.29/b or $66.07/b. Upstream
benzene also fell $11/mt or $846.67/mt. In
the east China market, it was observed that the June-July spread had widened. The H1-H2 June laycans assessed at Yuan 8,005/mt and the
H1-H2 July laycans assessed at Yuan 7 825/mt. This puts the intermonth
difference at Yuan180/mt up from Yuan150/mt the previous day. The market enthusiasm for ethylbenzene appeared to have
diminished on May 30. "The
ethylbenzene offered last week appears to be a one-off. I don't believe
gasoline blending is going to be a constant demand outlet...
