The Asian polyethylene markets were thinly discussed in the week ending Nov. 5, with several trading sources citing the typical year-end lull. In China, traders saw quiet trade, with most buyers purchasing on a need-to basis to manage inventory levels amid sluggish endproduct demand. Buyers were not keen to stock up given slowing sales for finished goods, and buying confidence was low as futures prices fell, a trader said. Buying interest in imported material was weak, with few active discussions heard through the week. In Southeast Asia, buyers were heard largely covered for November cargoes, and there were limited active buyers in the week.
