Asian PE: Chinese market weakens amid sluggish demand, yuan depreciation / PE CFR China Prices Trend Downward on Week / Muted trade in SE Asia; HDPE and LLDPE film price drops $10/mt

The prices of polyethylene in China have been trending downwards since the week ending Nov. 20 due to a slowdown in demand and a furtherdepreciationof the Chinese yuan versus the US dollar. High density polyethylene films CFR Far East Asia were down $5/mt from the previous week to $910/mt, while linear low density polyethylene films CFR Far East Asia dropped $10/mt in the same time period. Low density polyethylene film CFR Far East Asia was assessed at $1,120/mt in November 20. The yuan is falling against the US Dollar since Trump's re-election two weeks ago. "The depreciation of the [yuan] exchange rate has increasedthe costs for buyers to import, so foreign suppliers have loweredtheir prices," a Chinese trader said.Downstream demand also remains weak with no significantimprovements.
