The prices of Asian Paraxylene recovered marginally during the day, but concerns about a lack of appetite from producers to reduce production continue to weigh down on sentiment. Asian paraxylene prices were up $1.67/mt for the day, at $929/mt F.R. Taiwan/China on August 23. Market sources say that concerns about PX production and supply are not likely to diminish very soon. According to a trader in Singapore, producers have not cut back production yet despite sharp drops in spot prices and margins. The trader stated that "lower prices and margins are starting to make people consider whether they should reduce production." Market participants said that until the PX/naphtha differential falls below $250/mt, manufacturers will continue to run.
