10 saw the Asian naphtha market slow down due to more supply and spot activity
picking up after two tenders were issued. The near-term outlook for
naphtha was not favorable by market participants. Demand remained steady
despite a lackluster downstream petrochemicals supply. In the derivatives
market, the weaker sentiment was evident as the backwardation structure
narrowed during mid-morning trading March 10. The front-month April-May
Japan Naphtha Swap Spread was pegged at $8.25/mt by brokers, a 25-cent decrease
from $8.50/mt at March 9 Asian close. "Even though the margins for
olefins have increased, surpassing the $250/mt mark in April, I don't see
