In the week ending February 21, Asian glycols fluctuated within a narrow band, with few trades being heard due to persistent weakness in downstream. According to a producer, the operating rate of polyester downstream remained around 85% for the entire week. Inventory levels, however, were slightly higher, at about 20 days worth. PET bottle chips were in excess, and some plants are resuming production after earlier turnarounds. The week saw limited restocking, which contributed to the slow demand for MEG. Import cargo discussions were thin as buyers remained cautious due to the uncertainty of downstream demand in March.
