On Oct. 2, the Asian ethylene market was quiet due to Golden Week in China. According to market sources, the upcoming South Korean public holiday on October 3 is likely to limit discussion. The lack of buyers has continued to dampen the buying sentiment downstream. The selling indicators remained the same despite volatile feedstock naphtha price fluctuations. The C+F Japan Naphtha Marker was up $31.875/mt for the day to $674.50/mt by the close of the Asian market on October 2. The ethylene/naphtha differential was calculated at $145.50/mt. This is below the usual spreads of $250/mt or $300-$350/mt among non-integrated producers.
