Asian Butadiene - Stable at $20/mt more on demand from Japan / Japan covers 4,000 mt of demand / SE Asia tender closes with a minus $40 to $50/mt

CFR China butadiene was stable at $1,560/mt on July 19, while CFR Northeast Asia increased $20/mt to $1,570/mt in the same time period. FOB Korea Butadiene $1,550/mt, $10/mt more than the previous day. The Asian butadiene markets improved as a result of increased spot demand in Japan following an unplanned shutdown of Idemitsu Kosan’s steam cracker at Tokuyama. According to market sources, around 4,000 mt in spot butadiene demand merged as a result of the shutdown. This was quickly covered by Japanese end-users. A 2,000-mt cargo was reported to have been traded for $1,720/mt, FOB Korea, for mid-August. Some China-origin cargoeswere reported to have been done at $1,590-$1,600/mt FOB Chinaunder a swap deal with South Korea-origin cargoes.Some market sources said supplies in NE Asia tightenedtemporarily following the shutdown.On the other...
