Sources said that the spot styrene price was flat during a quieter week. Styrene monomer is priced at $1,275/mt for the first month FOB US Gulf and $1,245/mt for the second month FOB. Although power outages due to Hurricane Beryl caused a reduction in styrene output early July, a source stated that the overall capacity of the US Gulf Coast has "largely normalized", and is "back to approximately 90%." In Europe, however, the backwardation between August and September was significantly higher, at more than $200/mt. A source stated that "with the steep backwardation of Europe, I believe the SM spot range will deflate" in relation to USGC prices between July 29 and August 2, even though there were no reported spot trades during the week.
