US PP : Spot export price hit 13-month high amid slim export offers / Copolymer FAS Houston is still 2-cents more expensive than homopolymer : Latin America and Mexico are increasingly desiring US PP in the face of highex-Asia cargo

On June 12, the price of FAS Houston polypropylene was higher than it had been in over a year, as sources awaited new export offers and customers in the Americas were increasingly turning to US-origin material. On June 12, the grade was assessed at $50.5 cents/lb on a rail car basis, or $1,213/mt FAS Houston, an increase of $11/mt for the day as well as the week. The copolymer grade, however, was assessed at a $44/mt price premium. The CFR Far East Asia price for injection-grade PP was more than $275/mt cheaper than FASHouston. However, Mexican and Latin American buyers have turned to the US in order to get shorter lead times, and avoid higher freight rates.
