US acrylics: Spot price steady despite weak domestic demand; BASF reports a fire at Ludwigshafen / P&G reports falling sales of baby products: CFO / Source: Fire at BASF Ludwigshafen impacts acrylates

The spot prices of US acrylic monomers remained stable in the week ending July 30 due to a decline in domestic baby care product sales and a disruption of production at BASF Ludwigshafen, Germany. Andre Schulten, the CFO of US-based Procter & Gamble, said in a July 30 earnings call that sales of baby products for fiscal 2024 had decreased to low single digits. Schulten stated that "babycare was down in the mid-singles" for the fourth quarter. P&G, one of the two largest domestic diaper producers, accounts for approximately 75% of baby care.
