US Gulf spot methanol 3 cents lower on the
day on June 6 amid excess supply and weak downstream demand. The storage level in the
US was heard to be high with no reported production issues, sources said. Cheap feedstock is readily available and so US methanol
producers have continued to run at high operating rates despite the filling
inventories. "With cheap gas, make as
much as you can," a source said. "Everyone
is running well, there's so much excess supply." Supply has also been strong in Europe with high inventory
levels in Rotterdam. However, US producers
will still continue to try and export product to Europe as US material becomes
