Styrene price increases cause producers to review operating rates / Benzene values remain weak on bearish downstream outlook

A source reported that the sentiment in the European spot benzene-styrene market was weakened on June 5. Recent drops in styrene prices have caused some traders to reconsider their operating rates. A trader told us that the propylene/styrene units and ethylbenzene/styrene unit are reducing their rates. This is due to both weak demand and recent drops in styrene prices. Another source stated that all [styrene] plants in Europe were running, and imports had arrived. They also noted that the buying interest was down and that "in fact styrene Monomer is looking bearish." Styrene volumes are being heard headed to Europe.
