The weak fundamentals in downstream markets
affected the trading activity on the Asian benzene marketplace May 25. FOB Korea physical benzene
fell $2/mt, to $844.67/mt on May 25. The
domestic market in East China was also stagnant. Sinopec, according to a company official, was prompted by
the recent sharp decline in East China's domestic market to lower the benzene
price listed to Yuan 6,500/mt. This is Yuan 300/mt less than the previous
price. Mangalore Petrochemicals and
Refinery Ltd. in India is offering a parcel of benzene 6,000 mt, or 9,000mt,
for loading from June 12-16 at port New Mangalore. The bid closes May 25 with a same-day validity of 1300 GMT. Stable benzene continued to be imported into the Middle
East.
