US caustic prices fell $30-35/mt during the
week ending April 19, due to increased competition from overseas markets. In the US caustic industry, multiple pricing
indicators were below the $600-620/mt deal level during the week. Participants
noted that the increased competition in Asia and Europe pushed prices down. One source
stated that the US must have competitive pricing, since prices are falling in
other regions. On April 18, caustic soda was priced at $435-450/mt
FOM NWE in Europe. According to sources, the demand for caustic
soda continues to be low. Buyers who are more cautious reported
that they had a good supply of inventory and did not need to add any. Another
