Trading activity in the European linear low density polyethylene market was muted in the week to July 31, with market participants on holiday. "[Market activity is] very clipped by summer conditions, expect August to be dull. [There] won't be loads trying to buy, as demand isn't fantastic," a trader said. The August industry-settled contract price for feedstock ethylene settled up Eur20/mt from July at Eur1,240/mt July 31, off the back of a rise in the average cost of naphtha through July, according to market sources. Supply of LLDPE C4 grades remained tight across the week, mainly attributed to continued limited imports into Europe.
