The Asian ethylene market continued to be
weak on June 7. Most buyers cited a tepid demand for downstream products and
margin erosion. On
the day, several buyers were heard at $700/mt for CFR NE Asia. However, sellers
are still cautious about cost. The
majority of sellers chose to discuss July spot in a floating manner. Selling
ideas were heard for Northeast Asia at CFR NE Asia + $20-$30/mt, and Southeast
Asia at CFR SE Asia + $5-$10/mt. The
benchmark C+F Japan Naphtha was down $0.125/mt to $566.50/mt by the Asian close
on June 7. The ethylene/naphtha
differential was calculated at $193.50/mt. This is below the usual spreads of
$250/mt or $300-$350/mt (for integrated producers) and $150-$200/mt (for
