European March contract prices fell by
Eur100-105/mt in the freely negotiated GPPS/HIPS markets March 29. This was due
to a continuing weak demand environment and upstream monomer price drops. There were some signs of
price rises in the market following the TotalEnergies declaration of force
majeure regarding polystyrene due to "social movement" in France. It was expected that this would impact prices moving
forward. There were signs that other producers had seen an increase in inquiries
and anticipations of a price rise as April approached. A styrene producer stated that the packaging sector had seen
