Canada's Methanex announced that its North
American methanol contract price was 179 cents/gal in March. This is an
increase of 6 cents, which the company stated in a pricing statement, made
public February 22. This
is the first time they have increased their contract pricing since April 2022
when it was raised from 198 to 199 cents/gal. A source claimed that Methanex's move has left the market
"very puzzled". They described the current global market as one of
high supply and low demand. This meant that higher prices were not possible. Sources suggest that this could be Methanex raising prices
to "catch-up" with Southern Chemical Corporation's contract pricing. SCC reported its North American methanol contract prices at
177c/gal for March....
