Due
to thin price discussions, Asian butadiene was stable March 20 as compared with
March 17. Market sentiment is bearish due to a drop in crude oil futures. The
May ICE Brent crude oil futures contract for May was $5.1/b lower than the
Asian close of $70.34/lb at 0830 GMT. The data revealed that the CFR Japan
naphtha prices also fell $42/mt to $589/mt in line with this trend. The
spread in price between naphtha and butadiene was $561/mt on March 20, which
was the highest level since July 6, 2020, when it was $562.25/mt. Market
sources closely monitored steam cracker operations. As the market
sentiment for Asian petrochemicals is weakening, some steam cracker operators
may reverse their plans...
