The European methanol markets were
unchanged on May 11 despite an increase in the spot trading activity. The FOB Rotterdam 5- to 30-day spot price of
methanol was Eur274-282/mt, unchanged on the day. Sources
report that the spot market experienced a spike in liquidity on May 11. At
least 4,000 mt of methanol were traded, up from 2,000mt May 10. All for June
deliveries, at Eur274/mt. According to a seller, despite the
increase in spot volumes, most of the buying interest came from one participant. Although the
European market is heavily dependent on the imports of the Americas, the prices
in the US Gulf are only marginally lower than those in Rotterdam. This
