Due to lower offers from China, the price of Asian acrylonitrile rose during the week ending Oct. 15. CFR Far East Asia increased by $25/mt in the past week to $1185/mt. ACN spot supplies have tightened due to the scarcity of Chinese material. This has pushed prices up. ACN producers in the region are receiving more inquiries, particularly from India and Far East Asia. Sources on the market said that end-users' renewed interest in ACN due to low stock levels could boost prices. Some market participants are skeptical of the strength and longevity of the ACN price increase, because producers outside China still struggle with low demand and negative margins.
